Great selection. You have me thinking along the lines of another story Wayne…. The in color close up of the brown eyes in particular- I don’t have the storyline as I just saw the painting- but….. waddaya say?

I read your article on Doodlewash and I really enjoyed it, and all the pieces of your work featured. Some of your work has an Elizabeth Layton vibe. Loose, bold and beautiful. Just capturing people as they are – warts and all. Like you, she’s self-taught too.

Elizabeth Layton aka Grandma Layton, passed away over 30 years ago, in her 80s. She took up drawing in her 60s and found it helped with her depression. Her work has been featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art. I learned about her from the classic book “Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain”, under the section where a beginner like me learn about contour drawing, specifically – blind contour drawing.
