Cosi Ervamo Noi

Watercolor & paper 5.5×8.5

Watercolor is my preferred medium for the ability to convey delicacy & density at the same time. This is especially true when doing portraiture. With all my portraits I try to capture an aspect of the subjects personality not just in the moment but in general.

The dimensions of the piece I chose as a way to allow art to be enjoyed by someone who does not necessarily have a large living/working space. The modest size also allows for easy moving from one spot to another. As much as some of my favorite paintings are large, it can be a worrying commitment to someone just starting their collection or developing their aesthetic taste. My smaller pieces allow for an easier cohabitation than might occur with a large scale work.cosiervamonoi

Tete de Poisson

20160628_151202Watercolor  Cotton paper 9×12

Walking the fish market w/Louise as they set up. A man originally from Sicily takes a clever to a large tuna. With the first Cleve, blood spurts onto the apron in the shape of one perfect red flower, it is as it has always been. It shows that like his ancestors he knows what he is doing and also a portent of good luck, well, for somebody.

“Will you buy me a flower?”

“I need some coffee.”

“Not there, my cousin owns that place.”

In one day and a three hour train ride it would be as if I were in a different country.

Blue Hour

Watercolor & Mixed Media Paper. 9×12 For Marinabluehour

Not my preferred paper for painting but if I can get desired effects w/it then it is “easier” when using ideal French Cotton Paper. I always enjoy challenging myself as to avoid lapsing into mere mannerism.

troubledscarfPortrayed honestly, even the every day can be beautiful. An artist who truly is what he/she does creates their own lexicon. Not all symbols & words of this secret alphabet are exotic. Most of them are comprised of what one encounters on a daily basis, from a coffee cup to the clothes hanging on hooks off the back of the door.
